Well, its happened again—this should no longer come as a surprise to anyone. This time, it was a covetable clutch that could convert to a crossbody…yes I f%#*ing love alliteration. I first saw it while in their flagship store for…well, who needs a reason to be in Burberry?
My eye always goes towards unique details, and this instance is no different: dyed pony hair, funky scrunch closure, hidden D-rings on the sides to clip crossbody strap to…it was luxe, it was fun, it was practical…until I laid my eyes on the price tag. No one enjoys paying luxury prices, but thank goodness for friends in fashion 🙂 I stalked it on several different occasions. Only two are documented below.
Always a fiend for funky textures, the pony hair drew me in. Trying to justify a leopard bag? Pfft…as if anyone needs a justification for a leopard bag! The classic pattern goes in and out of style what seems like every year. Aside from my yearning for a snow-leopard bag this season, I’m a tad too particular for my own good sometimes—Ms. DVF, if only you hadn’t added the accent colors, I would’ve succumbed to your white ocelot print this winter, but maybe next year… This bad boy added a lustful detail with the oversized padlock. Though gold ain’t always my thang, it works so well with the Crush I was more than willing to overlook that detail. Unlike my last Want, Lust, Must Have post, this came as a Christmas present from my boo. Sure to jazz up any black on black on black ensemble—as if you thought I wore color, ha!—I’m ecstatic to break out this bag this season and for many years to come.

It took me a bit longer this year to really pinpoint what I want to attempt to change over the course of the next 12 months… I toyed with a few initial ideas:
- Stop, Breathe, Notice the Stressor: an attempt to de-stress my life a bit by pinpointing the triggers
- Drink More Water—doesn’t everyone say this?
- Think LESS: stop over-thinking, nit picking, over-analyzing, etc. ENJOY LIFE…yeah, I should probably keep this one, lol.
Ultimately, though, I want to de-clutter my life. It started once I moved from DC to NYC. I gave away/sold/donated over 3 Hefty trash bags’ worth of clothes, shoes, jewelry, and accessories. That put 2 things in clear perspective for me: 1. HOLY SH#* I waste a lot of money on clothes I don’t wear too often, and 2. HOLY F*$% I own way too much shit for someone my age. Moving into a studio apartment seemed like a death sentence when I was in D.C. Hell, even when we signed our lease here I was apprehensive because of the lack of closet space. Since last June I’ve come to realize that you just don’t need all that STUFF. Of course I’ve still shopped after we moved, but I’ve been smarter about it…because I had to. I’ve made an agreement with my boyfriend to tell him every purchase I make, otherwise he’ll just call me out on it and tickle me into submission. Yes, you read that right. Tickling is my weakness. I simply f*$%ing hate it.
In an effort to de-clutter my life ASIDE from my closet, I’ve also opted out of certain things. The biggest one? Twitter. Ah, yes, it feels SO great to no longer be a member of a social community that gives me more headaches than pleasure. Buh bye “Dolce & Gabana have tweets for you”. No…they don’t. Liar. PEACE OUT CUB SCOUT!

This spicy tomato chickpea soup is just what the doctor ordered! It makes you feel better and get over the sniffles in a fraction of the time medicine does—I swear by it every winter. I originally posted a teaser photo of me prepping this soup over a week ago on my IG—it was so well received I thought I’d share b/c no one likes to feel like sh%t 🙂 Original recipe from Vegan Yum Yum, slightly altered by me.
- 2-3 tablespoons EVOO
- 1 yellow onion
- 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 15-oz can chickpeas, drained
- 1 28-oz can diced tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
- 1 cup hot water
- Black pepper, to taste
OPTIONAL: plantain chips, roasted/salted pumpkin seeds as toppings
Necessary Kitchen Tools
- Heat the oil in a large skillet with high sides. Add the onion and sauté for 2 to 3 minutes until softened. Add the garlic, cumin, and chili flakes and stir for another minute.
- Add the mustard seeds, turmeric, and the drained chickpeas. Sauté until the chickpeas begin to turn golden.
- Add the tomatoes and let simmer for 10 to 15 minutes until the tomatoes are cooked and the majority of the moisture has been absorbed.
- Transfer the mixture—all or half of it—to a blender. Add the nutritional yeast and hot water and blend until smooth (unless you prefer a bit of texture). Blend in batches if you can’t fit everything at the same time. Serve with fresh cracked black pepper.
In case you’re starting to feel that scratchy throat, get the sniffles out of nowhere, or are just paranoid that coworkers may be sharing more than their advice enjoy the health benefits of turmeric—not to mention the tastiness!—while you rest up this week. Pfft…who are we kidding? Hope this soup helps aid your hangover from last night’s festivities too.
